Description

In April 97 Shrapnel Records agreed to negotiate the release from my contract with them. It was time to get back on track and have a band again, like I did before the solo records, and this CD was gonna be the starting point. I took the songs recorded for the Hermit CD that Shrapnel rejected (Dummy, Vomit, Dirty Pant’loons,) and then finished the unrecorded songs that Shrapnel also rejected (Swatting Flies, What I Knew, Shrunk.) From there I wrote Chair Ass – I was drinking a can of Path Mark ginger ale, and half way through recording the solo I grabbed the half-full can and wedged it against the strings and played the rest of the solo with one hand. It made a bit of a mess all over the guitar – I think it improved the sound. Funny thing about Path Mark ginger ale – if you drink it at least a half hour before going to bed, you get the most vividly detailed and disturbing dreams, where you feel everything that’s happening. Maybe it’s just me.

The title song Hands came to me while I was driving home from the studio the night before leaving to tour France (May 97). I never wanted to tour in support of my solo records – I didn’t feel like they were really me, and I wasn’t going to pretend or misrepresent. I got no fulfillment from music anymore – my identity was censored and diluted for so long that I was numb. But by recording this CD I remembered what music was – it was my medicine. My peace. Kept me sane. And the freedom to be myself brought back the spirituality I had lost. I dedicated this album to it. By the time I got home from the drive, the entire song was written in my head – I always write songs in my head first. I played the opening guitar riff while scatting with a kazoo.

While returning back to Paris after performing in the town of Nancy, we (me and the good folks at Roadrunner) spent all night driving and talking, and I told them I had a gut feeling that someone close to me was going to die. The next morning I called home and was told she had died that night, and within 5 minutes I wrote Tuesday In Nancy – a song I had for years, but couldn’t find the right words for. What a ~censored~’ eventful tour. The first night there, I went to bed and noticed a red bump on the side of my leg. “Hey – I got bit by a French mosquito” I thought. After a few days, and that jetlag feeling not going away, the bump was multi-colored and about 4 inches in diameter. “Serious mosquitoes out here” I thought. I won’t go to a doctor or hospital until I’m about to drop dead. So at this point, my leg is stiffened up and numb, and I can no longer bend my knee. “The swelling should be going down soon” I thought.

After 7 days, it was 6 inches in diameter and rock solid, my leg was starting to turn black, and was starting to shrink. So I finally mentioned something to the kind folks at the label. I showed it to them, and they jumped – they took me to a pharmacist who saw it and jumped – he sent us to the hospital, where the doctor saw it and jumped. That’s when I got concerned. They were going to cut my leg open, but I opted for anti-biotics. That’s when the 2 weeks of multi-colored sauce started to ooze out of the bullet-wound-like inch-wide open hole in my leg where the skin melted away. As the feeling returned to my leg, the painkillers, even with their illegal potency, weren’t strong enough to hold back what felt like a toothache throbbing from my toes to my crotch. It helped me gig. The last show I did, the blood soaked through the bandages and through my pants – don’t think anyone noticed. It took 2 months for the hole to close up. I don’t think it was a mosquito.

I had just returned from seeing the play “Rent” when my brother called me up and told me about a botched night out with friends he had at this steakhouse his friends’ girlfriend had been wanting to go to for months. They showed up late (had to pick someone up from the airport) and as they walked in, the restaurant was in the process of putting the chairs up on the tables and closing – but they served them anyway. The food was nearly raw, and their plates were taken away before they finished eating. The place only accepted cash which they didn’t expect, so everyone had to empty what little money they had in their wallets. That’s where the song Brooklyn Steakhouse came from. It was the first guitar solo I recorded after coming home from the tour with my new Vigier guitar (signed an endorsement deal with them out there.) Next I proceeded to record Backfur, where I turned up the amp and beat the guitar with my ~censored~ until I got the sounds I want. If it wasn’t for that, I probably would have left the song off the record.

Next, I went looking for people with unique hands and photographing them for the album art. After 2 months of searching, I was out of time and had to prepare for manufacturing, even though it didn’t get enough different pictures. I was in the studio working with some rappers telling them about the CD art and how I wish I could have found one more hand, when one of them yelled to someone in the next room “Hey, Stubbs – come here…” The kid reached out to shake my hand, and I found the last hand I was looking for. ~censored~ fate.

Everything about this album is stripped down and raw – the lyrics, the hands in the artwork (no digital editing,) and I kept the recording dry and natural sounding – no doubling of vocals or guitars. I engineered the record using 24-track ADATs and a Mackie board. I made a point to include all the lyrics and had the mixes mastered by Mark Wilder (Sony Studios NYC). The release from Shrapnel was finalized in September 97. In December I started the production company Hermit Inc and began talking with distributors in Japan and Europe. Then the search began for the right people to make this band grow. Long search. Alot of mistakes – some couldn’t devote time, and some were just backstabbing pieces of ~love~ – ya don’t find that out until you’re depending on them. While working with different people trying to get the right line-up, the record was released mail-order March 98 and in stores in France in June 98. Bumblefoot’s first gig was a showcase for TVT Records. Our second gig was gonna be opening for Van Halen June 17th in Paris, but the show was cancelled. The third gig was in Nice, France for an audience of a few thousand. That’s where the writing began for the “Uncool” CD…

 Keri Hilson - In A Perfect World @ 320kbps

Description:

Keri Lynn Hilson is an American R&B singer and songwriter signed to Zone 4/Mosley Music Group/Interscope Records. She is part of a collective of writers and producers known as The Clutch. Hilson began songwriting in 2001 and would go on to write tracks for Britney Spears, Ciara, Usher, and Ludacris. Despite having made a name for herself as an arranger and background vocalist, as well as lending her vocal talents to many of the songs she co-wrote, Hilson remained behind the scenes for the most part until 2004, when she was featured on Xzibit’s single, ‘Hey Now ‘ and made her performing debut singing the track live at the 2004 MTV Europe Awards.

‘In A Perfect World’ is the debut album by American singer-songwriter Keri Hilson. The album was originally slated for release in 2007 but was pushed back multiple times into 2009, as Hilson stated herself, mainly due to budget cuts at her record label. The album was finally released on March 24th 2009. The album boasts amazing sounds from a slew of hitmakers like Timbaland, Polow, and Danja. The album features guest appearances by Timbaland, Lil Wayne, Akon, Keyshia Cole, and Ne-Yo. It’s a watershed moment that meets both goals-it sounds and feels great. Speaking up for all the ladies, ‘In A Perfect World’ also looks to empower women to be strong, independent and determined. “No human is exempt from the realities of life- heartbreak, failure, success…” Keri comments. This takes all forms throughout the album which reveals Keri’s ability to translate every day trials and tribulations into engaging music.

Manu Chao

Biography
Manu Chao, Complete Discography

Manu Chao helped begin the Latin Alternative movement, way back in the ’80s — although it had no name then — and in his later work he cuts a cross-cultural swathe across styles and geographic boundaries. Chao, whose real name is Oscar Tramor, was born on June 26, 1961 in Paris, to Spanish parents — his father Ramon Chao a respected writer, comes from Galicia, his mother Bilbao. Growing up bilingual, he was also influenced by the punk scene across the English Channel that happened while he was still in his teens. As a teen he played in bands, including a rockabilly outfit called Les Hot Pants, which won local critical praise but never went anywhere before breaking up. After that, Chao and his cousin began Mano Negra, named for an anarchist organization which operated in Spain. They recorded their first single, “Mala Vida,” for a small label, but its French success led them to a contract with Virgin — something many early fans decried as selling out. Multilingual and decidedly multicultural, but with an edge heavily influenced by the punk rock of the Clash, they seemed comfortably at home anywhere, be it North Africa or North America, in their music. Operating as a collective, without a manager, wasn’t the best way to guarantee international success, and their attempts to break the U.S. at the start of the ’90s didn’t work — America simply wasn’t ready for their musical ratatouille. However, Europe loved them, as did South America. In 1992 they began a seemingly odd tour of Latin America, traveling by boat with actors and a circus, playing in port cities on both the Atlantic and Pacific sides, aided and abetted by various political guerilla groups, which sometimes didn’t sit well with governments. In 1995, Chao moved the band to Spain, where he also formed another outfit, Radio Bemba Sound System, employing both musicians from Mano Negra and outside, which, according to rumors, caused rifts within the ranks, leading to the split of Mano Negra. Chao then returned to South and Central America, spending the next few years drifting around with his guitar and a four-track, recording here and there. The resultant collection of songs was released in 1998 (1999 in the U.S.) under the title Clandestino, and included a reworking of the Mano Negra track “King of Bongo,” which was picked up for use on the soundtrack to Madonna’s The Next Big Thing. The album itself took off very slowly, but after a year was going stronger than ever, a sleeper that found its niche in the burgeoning Latin Alternative scene (even though its lyrics freely mixed English and French along with the Spanish). In 2000 Chao played a rare pair of shows in Los Angeles, and in June 2001 released Proxima Estacion: Esperanza, which showed that his musical self had been spending the last couple of years soaking up the sounds of the Caribbean. This was further explored on The Live Album, a recording done in 2001 that was taken from the tour following Proxima Estacion: Esperanza. ~ Chris Nickson, All Music Guide

External Reviews
Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones was still licking some serious wounds due to the breakup of his 12-year relationship with his girlfriend and a fallout with a best mate. The band’s 2001 release, Just Enough Education to Perform, briefly touched upon his broken heart; however, Jones’ darkest period came later as the band played countless sold-out gigs across Europe throughout late 2001 and 2002. Jones found himself personally and professionally isolated — emotionally distant from his bandmates and best friends, drummer Stuart Cable and bassist Richard Jones, and creatively exhausted. However the fire that had made this band a major force in the post-grunge English rock scene still burned. Stereophonics’ fourth album, You Gotta Go There to Come Back captures Jones’ soulful journey, and the band’s classic rowdy rock style is as sultry as ever. While their three previous albums exuded ~censored~ just for the sake of being ~censored~, You Gotta Go There to Come Back doesn’t care to be so snide. Sure, the band’s classic swagger remains an integral part of its overall appeal, but moving beyond that silly behavior has somehow affected Jones and his band. Cable became a father during the recording of this album while Richard Jones settled down and got married. Perhaps Jones craves a bit of stability as well? His confidence is on par throughout these 13 blues-rock-tinged songs as his life unfolds through words. “Jealousy” and “You Stole My Money Honey” are the album’s more vexed moments. “Climbing the Wall,” layered in acoustic guitars and horn and string arrangements, and “Nothing Is Precious at All” continue Stereophonics’ psychological sifting with warmth. “Madame Helga” is the punch in the face Jones has been waiting to deliver. Heart-pounding musicianship from the band itself makes this swanky gospel number an album standout and a career staple. It’s a song that Stereophonics have been wanting to make for years, and the overall fierce presentation finds the band at its best. Stereophonics are consistent with their craft, and You Gotta Go There to Come Back highlights the band’s growing talent as musicians, but the fact is that they’ve only made good records up to this point. They have yet to make a really great record, but that’s not to say Stereophonics don’t have what it takes. You Gotta Go There to Come Back is a solid rock effort, and in due time, the band will have its epic.

The Fratellis – Costello Music

Costello Music is the debut album by Scottish indie rock band The Fratellis. It was released on September 11, 2006 on Fallout Records and was a moderate success, peaking at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart. The album had five single releases, as well as the download-only EP “Flathead”. “Chelsea Dagger” was the most successful single, peaking at number 5 in the UK and number 4 in the Netherlands, but the other singles failed to chart in most countries.

The album was widely acknowledged to bear a strong resemblance to albums by The Libertines and critics commented on its British rock traits. Its success resulted in the band touring internationally, playing gigs in Europe, the USA and Japan. The band’s ensuing popularity allowed them to win the Brit award for Best British Breakthrough Act.

Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe (2008)

Uhhhh, I am sorry guys for posting this with a delay, but it somehow just went by me =/

Thanks a big lot to user Alius who sent me a PM to write about this release This band is

one of my favorites so I was really excited when i saw that theres a p2p release of this out,

knowing scene rls will come soon and here it is. This release hit us some days ago pre’d by

an elite group So, if you like Melo Death, definitely check out their old Album: “Pitch

Black Progress”; it contains some killer songs like The Illusionist, Dreaming 24/7, The

Kaleidoscopic God. Don’t forget to buy their stuff, I also did!

In June 2006, it was announced that the band had signed a new recording deal with Nuclear

Blast records. Eight months after the release of Symmetric In Design the band found

themselves back in the studio to record their follow-up, Pitch Black Progress. The band again

followed up their recording by touring, this time with Communic for the Waves of Pitch Black

Decay Tour 2006 throughout Europe and toured North America with melodic death metal pioneers

Dark Tranquillity, and The Haunted. They also performed at more European festivals. The song,

“The Illusionist” began receiving air-play on MTV2’s Headbangers Ball.

In September of 2007, the band embarked on another North American tour with headliners

Katatonia as well as Insomnium and Swallow the Sun.

Finnish band Poets of the Fall has certainly made a lot of commercial press lately in the overseas music industry, particularly in Europe. It’s little wonder why. Their smooth combination of “pop, rock, metal and industrial music” is quite well noted. Composed of Mark Surresto (Marko) on vocal/guitars, Olli (Ollie) Tukinasen on guitar, and Markus (Captain) Karrlonen as the producer, keyboardist and programmer, they make a band that’s not afraid to show their ability to mix these genres seamlessly and with quite a bit of heart.

Many people in gaming know them as the band who sung the theme to Max Payne 2, the tragic “Late Goodbye.” Their first few releases in the music industry were the singles to “Late Goodbye” and “Lift”, both of which were featured on their anticipated album “Signs of Life”, which sold more than 30,000 copies to date. Part of their aim is to make a more global market, and with the release of “Signs of Life” in 2005, they begun to do just that, earning awards like the Emma (Finnish equivalent of the Grammys), a Game Audio Network Guild award for best original song (”Late Goodbye”) among other honors. Even further, their latest album in 2006 “Carnival of Rust,” shot to #1 after a week’s release. In December of 2006, it was certified platinum, making it the biggest album success for the band yet.
